Pain and drains are our biggest headache right now besides the actual headaches she is having. We are trying some new meds and combos of meds to see what helps but also being cautious and wanting her to be awake and aware enough to do PT and be an active participant in her care. Her drain is her biggest source of pain right now, unfortunately it has to stick around for a bit because she is still, as her surgeon puts it, an oozy lady.

A lesser issue we are dealing with are CANKLES. Her little tiny bird legs (IYKYK) have turned into…  large logs with chubby feet attached. This is due to a lot of fluid retention from surgery and all of the fluids given over the past week. She has been begging us for slippers, finally got ones that are anti-slip for her..

welp, we’ll try again another day. Not even close. At least she has a nice pedicure still.

We are hoping some of it starts to flush out through her kidneys and then hopefully she will be more comfortable over all.

We brought in a special guest visitor because mom might be sick of our faces (just a tiny bit 🤪) Aunt Jill enjoyed the ride with us today and got to enjoy her very own slice of cardboard pizza from the cafeteria. Pizza that mom finally got the clearance to eat, that she may have asked about so many times that the doctor made sure to personally come in to her room to make sure she got the good news. Not sure that it fulfilled the pizza craving because it is very cardboard-y but it’ll have to do for now!

*She still only can have food made from inside the hospital*

Discharge is a word we’ve been hearing thrown around a few times today. To say that we are shocked we are even speaking about coming home so much sooner than anticipated is an understatement. We don’t have any dates set but it sounds like she is doing really well and if we conquer a few last hurdles she will be cleared to do PT at home and start healing from there. When that day comes, we are going to miss the near constant blood work to check every level and mychart stalking when she comes home. Nellie is a professional mychart stalker, she reads every note and looks at every report. It’s SO so nice to see her new liver numbers updated all the time and looking so good.

I got to talk to a few of her doctors today and everyone is truly impressed with how well she is doing. Obviously she is still recovering from major surgery but for someone who just had major surgery she looks great! Definitely ending the day hopeful and optimistic about what’s next to come.

xoxo
