i’m still the drill sergeant though. 🙂
Today was EDUCATION day!
We got to learn about all the fun things that will change after we leave the hospital.
The first person we met with was the nutritionist/dietician. Went over all the foods that are big no-nos. Mom’s beside herself over the Grapefruit which is a forever, never again thing. I wish I was kidding when I say that a few hours after she got the call she ate literally an entire 1/2 TUB of grapefruit and drank her last Fresca. RIP.
Our next meeting was the pharmacist. This was fun for me, I got to learn all the real names of meds, what their purpose is, how long she is on them, etc. I wish I was lying when I said I love learning new things, especially in this setting. I was already vaguely familiar with everything because of doing my own research and the education given to us beforehand but seeing it unfold real time, so much better.
Our last meeting was with the….
DISCHARGE NURSE!!!!!!
She went over all of mom’s meds that we just talked about with the pharmacist, showed us every single one, had mom fill her pill container for the week with all her pills and it was nice for mom to be able to see first hand that she was taking less meds post-transplant than she was pre-transplant!

I have to really applaud the team today, especially our pharmacist, Adina, our discharge nurse, Izzy, and mom’s nurse, Agnes. These 3 ladies really held the fort down today. Some sensitive topics were discussed today and all 3 of these women spent extra time with mom to put her mind at ease and make sure she was ok. Knowing how many other patients need their attention but seeing they are here providing emotional support and actively listening on top of providing physical care is so comforting.
That being said, obviously emotions are still running high and unfortunately the insane dose of prednisone for the next coming months will keep her on this rollercoaster. We keep assuring her that these are all normal things to experience. It’s obvious she’s ready to come home, mentally. The hospital is lonely. There is only so much you can do there. We can’t wait to take our girl home to a nice clean house so she can start a brand new life.
Monday will be two weeks, she is progressing insanely fast and blowing recovery out of the water. Keep the good vibes and prayers coming. We feel ‘em all.
that’s all folks
xoxo
