Upon arrival back home, Mom found out that we had tossed all her throw pillows and presented her with only 4 new ones. Al and I decided we wanted everything to be nice so all the ones that Goose decided to rip the embellishments off of, shred the tassels off the corners, pluck the shagged edges piece by piece, or just simply nibble small irreparable holes in them were in the garbage.
The first thing she noticed about the living room: “Ugh, where are all my throw pillows?” Quickly followed by a “you mean, who ate all the throw pillows?” So today I told Mom I wouldn’t leave her hanging with 4 new ones and she could pick out some fun ones that are “her” for the couch.. that was our big task of her first full day back at it in the real world.
Another task today was figuring out what to eat. What was safe and allowed, followed by the most important thing; if it was something that enticed mom. After the hospital hunger strike, jk…… well, not really. She barely ate in the hospital. Truly because of the combination of nausea, pain, and the feelings she had about the hospital food. ANYWAYS, almost nothing is appealing to her currently. This does happen with certain meds and med changes and hopefully when her numbers level out she will have both more of an appetite and things will taste “normal” again. For now, it’s a lot of encouragement and trying our hardest to make and find things she wants. Lots of snacks between picking at meals are getting us through so far!
Last night was her first night sleeping back in her own bed. Definitely was way better than the hospital bed but I wouldn’t say it was pain alleviating. I think she keeps forgetting she had major surgery because I keep reminding her that she has to go easy on her body and I notice (with my own two eyeballs) that during the day she is pushing it and trying to move around quick now that she has these bursts of energy and while it’s awesome.. slow down you crazy lady!!! You are literally 14 days post op.
As far as mom’s first full day, it couldn’t have been more beautiful outside. Something about mother nature really beaming on you and telling you that you better be fuckin’ grateful today. So we all did just that.
