It’s my birthday today and this year I got the best gift I could ask for a new liver for mom and her first poop!
Now that we’ve got that shit out of the way…
We started the day here with a bright eyed and cheery mom, she looks good, she feels good(ish), well at least the best you are going to feel when you have more staples in you than an office supply store. Her pain pump button is still her bestie.
We are still in the transplant ICU working on pain management and some blood pressure issues before we can move floors. Although we will definitely miss our amazing care team here when we do. Shoutout to mom’s amazing nurse (Cassie) who ran out on her break to get a birthday card for mom to give to me.
The emotions did start to hit hard for the first time today. Anxiety, pain, and staring at the walls all day will make anyone a little stir crazy. Facetiming her sisters was definitely a highlight and turned her whole day around.

PT is kicking her butt and as I type this she is on her third lap around the nurses’ desk. A third lap she willingly decided to take. Her therapists think we are pretty funny and know we are not letting her take any shortcuts.
Attitude is EVERYTHING. We can only hope that her mostly positive and cheerful attitude continues. Send all the good vibes.
xoxo
